Awards Available to Anthropology Majors
The following summer funding opportunities are available to Anthropology majors. Applications are typically due in March of each year. For additional information, contact the Department at socyanth@cofc.edu.

The Jon Morter Memorial Award in Anthropology/Archaeology was created to honor the memory of Jon Morter, a prehistoric archaeologist who taught at the College of Charleston in 1996-1997. The award is given to a College of Charleston student who is a declared Anthropology major, with preference given to students who pursue archaeological field study.

The Catherine Wood Parker Memorial Award, created through the generosity of Mrs. William Heidenreich to honor her mother, is a reflection of Mrs. Parker’s lifelong interest in travel, history, anthropology, and archaeology. The award is given to a College of Charleston student who is a declared Anthropology major, with preference given to students engaged in fieldwork. Students traveling to participate in an anthropological field school or study abroad course in which they will be engaged in research are encouraged to apply.

The Anthropology Fieldwork Award is given to a College of Charleston student who is a declared Anthropology major and who will engage in anthropological fieldwork.
Awards Available to Sociology Majors
The following funding opportunities are available to Sociology majors. Applications are typically due in March of each year. For additional information, contact the Department at socyanth@cofc.edu.

Richard A. and Shannon W. Haddad Internship Award is awarded to a College of Charleston student who is a declared Sociology major completing a for-credit internship with troubled or at-risk youth through the Sociology Internship Program or the Crime, Law and Society Program. The recipient must have a demonstrated interest in helping troubled youth through previous volunteer experience, activities, research, etc.; and/or an interest in pursuing a career working with troubled youth in the future.

The Center for Creative Retirement Gerontology Award was established in 2005 to encourage students to study gerontology. The Gerontology Award is made possible by Kate Tebben Pomplun (SOCY '05), who was the CCR Gerontology Award recipient in 2005. She was very grateful for the support she received as a student and hoped to one day be able to support another student in the same way.

SeniorCare.com continues to bring more awareness to the key issues we face as an aging population. For the 8th consecutive year, we will be awarding an annual college scholarship to an individual that best demonstrates to us why "Aging Matters" to them. A $1500 scholarship will be given annually to a selected college student that currently cares for an aging loved one, works within the senior community, or intends to pursue a career that will have an impact on the elder population. Any existing student (or incoming freshman), in good academic standing, at a 2 or 4 year accredited college can apply for this scholarship. The recipient will demonstrate a unique and admirable understanding and desire to show us that "Aging Matters" to them.
